X (Twitter) header size
Also called Twitter header size, X header size, Twitter banner size
What is the X (Twitter) header size?
X (Twitter) header size is the recommended dimensions for the banner image at the top of an X profile: 1500×500 pixels, a 3:1 ratio, as a JPG, PNG or GIF up to 5 MB. These are the widely published values as of 2026. X has kept this size through its rebrand from Twitter, but can change it.
The profile picture overlaps the lower left of the header, and different screens crop the top and bottom slightly. Keeping text and logos in the center, and away from the lower left, avoids having them hidden.
Like other profile banners, the header is free advertising space: a tagline, a product shot, a launch date or a link.
Why the X (Twitter) header size matters
Your header is seen by everyone who checks your profile, often after one of your posts gets attention. A clear, on-brand header turns that moment into a reason to follow or click.
A wrong-sized upload is cropped through text or stretched, which looks unprofessional next to a polished bio.
How to make an X header
- Design at 1500×500 (3:1).
- Keep the lower left clear for the profile picture.
- Place text in the center band, since the top and bottom may be cropped.
- Use your brand colors and one short message.
- Check it on desktop and mobile after uploading.
