Facebook cover photo size

Also called Facebook cover size, Facebook banner size

What is the Facebook cover photo size?

Facebook cover photo size is the recommended dimensions for the wide image at the top of a Facebook profile or Page. As of 2026, covers display at about 820×312 pixels on desktop and 640×360 on phones, and Facebook asks for an upload of at least 851×315. Many designers upload at twice that size for sharpness.

Because desktop and mobile crop differently, the sides are cut off on phones and the top and bottom on desktop. The profile picture and Page buttons also overlap the lower part. The safest approach is to keep text and logos in the center of the image.

Facebook recommends an sRGB JPG under 100 KB for fastest loading, and PNG for covers with logos or text. Facebook updates its layout, so check the current display in both views after uploading.

Why the Facebook cover photo size matters

The cover photo is the largest image on your Page and often the first thing visitors see. A sharp, well-cropped cover with your brand colors and a short message makes the business look active and trustworthy.

A badly sized cover gets cropped through faces or text on one of the two layouts, which is easy to miss if you only check one.

How to make a Facebook cover photo

  1. Design at 851×315 or larger in the same ratio (for example 1702×630).
  2. Keep text and logos within a central area of about 640 px wide so mobile does not crop them.
  3. Leave the lower left clear where the profile picture overlaps on some layouts.
  4. Export as JPG for photos or PNG for text and logos.
  5. Check the result on both desktop and phone.
