Brand ambassador

Also called ambassador program

What is a brand ambassador?

A brand ambassador is a person who represents and promotes a brand over an extended period, rather than for a single campaign. Ambassadors can be loyal customers, creators, athletes, experts or employees. They talk about the brand regularly, use its products in public and often get perks, discounts, commissions or a fee in return.

The difference from a one-off influencer post is commitment. An ambassador relationship builds familiarity, because the audience sees the same person use the product over months. Many brands run ambassador programs with tiers, referral codes and community events.

Ambassadors who are paid or receive free products must disclose that relationship in their posts, just like any sponsored creator.

Why a brand ambassador matters

Repeated, genuine recommendations from the same trusted person build more trust than one sponsored post. Ambassadors also give a brand a steady supply of authentic content and social proof.

Customer ambassador programs are a low-cost option for small businesses. A handful of enthusiastic regulars with referral codes can bring in new customers through word of mouth.

How to start a brand ambassador program

  1. Look first at customers who already post about you.
  2. Decide what ambassadors get: discounts, free products, commission or a fee.
  3. Write simple guidelines covering disclosure, tone and what not to say.
  4. Give each ambassador a referral code or link to track results.
  5. Check in regularly and feature their content on your own channels.

Brand ambassador FAQ

What is the difference between a brand ambassador and an influencer?

An influencer partnership is often a single campaign. A brand ambassador represents the brand over a longer period and usually has a deeper, ongoing relationship with it.

Do brand ambassadors get paid?

Some do, some receive products, discounts or commission instead. It depends on the program and the person's reach.
